How does an online escape room work?
An In-Evasion game is a chain of steps. Each one shows you some text, a picture, a sound or a video, and hides an answer: a word, a number, a name. Type the right code and the next step opens. Some games run in a straight line, others branch out: a crossroads makes you pick a door, a dead end sends you back.
Everything you unlock lands on a board with no edges. Pin your notes, draw, stretch red string between two clues, like on a detective’s wall. Nothing is lost between sessions: you pick the game up where you left it.
Really free?
Yes. Playing costs nothing, and nothing is sold on the site today. There is no subscription, no in-game purchase and no download: it all runs in the browser, on a computer or a phone.
To keep your progress you need an account. It takes one click with Google or Discord, with no password to remember. Hints are paid in credits, an in-game currency you earn as you go, never with real money.
Solo or as a team
Each creator picks the mode of their game. In solo games, everyone moves at their own pace with their own progress. In team games, progress is shared: a code found by one player opens the step for everyone, and the shared board shows each player’s cursor live.
To invite your friends, send them the game’s six-letter code, a link or a QR code. Each team gets a chat to talk through leads without leaving the screen.
Which game should you pick?
The catalogue gathers In-Evasion’s official escape rooms and the ones published by the community. Each page shows the estimated time, the play mode, the languages and the rating players left. The official games are a good way to get the hang of it.
When a game closes, the full solution is revealed with every team’s time, and you can leave a review. And if you feel like writing your own puzzles, the Studio is open to everyone.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. Games run in the browser, on a computer, tablet or phone. An internet connection is all you need.
How long does a game take?
It depends on the game: each page shows an estimated time. Your progress is saved, so you can stop and come back later.
What if I get stuck?
Ask for a hint. Depending on the game, it arrives right away or a game master approves it. Hints cost credits you earn by playing, never money.
Is the site available in other languages?
Yes, in seven: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch. Each game lists the languages it can be played in.
