Why an escape room in class?

An educational escape room gives students a reason to use what they know: to open the next step, they have to solve a calculation, find a date, translate a sentence or decode a message. Students search together, argue their case and split the leads between them.

The format suits every subject: a history investigation, a coded message in a foreign language, a logic sequence in maths, a science mystery to solve. You write the puzzles, at your class’s level.

Preparing the game

In the Studio, each step holds your content (text, picture, audio, video, link) and the expected answer. You link the steps to build a path, straight or branching. Answers can ignore capitals and accents, so a spelling slip never blocks sound reasoning.

Prepare hints in levels for each step and set their price in credits. Before the lesson, play the game in test mode to check everything flows.

During the lesson

Keep the game unlisted: it does not appear in the catalogue, and only people with the code or link can join. Put the QR code on the board, students form their teams, and each group shares a board and a chat.

From the GM console, you see where each team stands, watch its board live and answer hint requests. You can also approve every hint yourself to measure out the help.

After the game

When it closes, the full solution appears with each team’s time: a good basis for a class debrief. The statistics show the steps where groups got stuck the most, and so the topics to go over again.

Frequently asked questions

Do students need an account?

Yes, to save their progress: they sign in with a Google or Discord account. Check that this is allowed at your school before the lesson.

How do I reuse a game next year?

Export it to a file from the Studio, then import it when you need it: it comes back as a draft, ready to edit.

Is it free for teachers?

Yes. Creating, hosting and playing are free today, with no credit card.

Can each student play at their own pace?

Yes. In solo mode, each student has their own progress. Team mode shares progress and the board within a group.
